CVK, My iMovie : MY life, Easton, KS

Unknown

iMovie has been great to work with, especially after you have taken block and are very familiar with the product. I feel that it lays everything out and gives a beginner or an expedience person the tools it needs to create a movie or trailer for the needs of that particular task. What I did for my full iMovie was talk about my life in the small rural town of Easton, KS and give a description on some of the town features that i experienced growing up in Easton. I feel that iMovie does an excellent job in making your project come to life with its own touch of your personal voice. I also thought that iMovie does a great job of laying out where you want to put your pictures within the timeline and how long your actual movie is going to be, this can give you a clear understanding of how long you can talk about one picture in your personal iMovie. Overall like I said earlier, for some one using iMovie before it was easy to navigate, but for a first timer if you are having trouble using this app you may use this tutorial to help answer any the questions that you may be struggling with. I hope that this movie provides the viewer with some detail on how I grew up knowing that I come from a very slow pace society.

20150707-182400.jpg

These are a series of lessons that you are able to look at that can last for long periods of time, that gives the reader ideas on a particular subject that they might to learn about. In this part of the educational app they have about 30 in the collection relating to lessons. The first app in the collection that caught my attention is called It’s All Geography to me which gave a description of the study of geography with the way the human and physical environment interact with each other. The second app which I thought was interesting was A Stitch in Time: Civilizations and Storytelling which gives the description of having students investigate how myth and storytelling fuel the rise of civilizations. The third and final lesson that caught my eye was the Non-Verbal & Visual Communications, it describes that it will help students to improve knowledge in communication through verbal and non verbal communication, writing listening and interview skills.

Images from the collection I choose. I thought this app really could inspire educators to help improve on new lesson for particular subjects by looking up updated materials and applying them to the classroom. I also think for summer school programs students that want to use this app on his or her I pad, it would be very beneficial as well to help them catch up from the previous year what they may misunderstood or help students prepare for the upcoming year. I was unfamiliar   with this app for the first time using but it layed out where I needed to go to find the educational collection I was looking for. If you are a first time user and need some instructional help on this app you find this tutorial helpful.

One Best Thing: Mathematics Strategies for the Young Learner

Digital Discourse in Mathematics: Strategies for the Young Learner

I found  the download Mathematics Strategies for Young Learners from I book very eye opening in the fact that it is changing the way students approach the very core of learning. Education with this book is co existing with what is known as the ADE program or Apple Distinguished Educators that are part of a global community of education leaders recognized for doing amazing things with Apple technology in the way they promote this type of learning on the I pads. Students are able to explore new ideas, seek new paths, and embrace new opportunities of ideas on how to do math with this app from the book. What makes this nice is the way it uses technology with math problems to help students in figuring out  how to find solutions in math problems thy may be struggling with. This book allows the reader to understand how you may make a difference in the way you teach a lesson and how many new solutions can be make to find the answer students might be struggling with. What I like about this book and how it can apply to the i pad is that it is free to download and you don’t have to pay any upgrades to unlock app or solutions on the i pad, it clearly tells you how to walk through solutions on your I pad with what you should have downloaded and what free items you may need. This book is very classroom friendly in helping the teacher come up with a different lesson plan then a normal day when getting the students involved with each other on the classroom I pads with One best thing and the Math solutions it could offer with the I pads. If you are a first time teacher using this book you might like tutorial website that is also from one best thing that helps show difference camera angles and features on the I pad that can be used to help solve math problems.

Week 7 Reflection: Using i Pads on the State Assessments

ipad scantron

I ended up reading this Article based out of the State of Texas that allowed students to take state assessments using the graphing calculator app  from i pads. School districts across Texas had finally won the battle of the Texas agency, over using these devices during the math portion of the tests. The main reason that school districts were wanting to use i pads instead of regular graphing calculators is that it would cost each student almost $180 to buy a graphing calculator to use for the test, when school are going to the 1to1 program of purchasing large amounts of i pads for students to use so it is just logic for them to use the i pad instead of going out and spending a ton of money on a graphing calculator when they can use the product that the school is able to provide. I thought this article gave great thoughts on how technology is growing so much with the i pad, but I also understand why state school agency might fight it in the fear of cheating on the i pads. From my personal usages of summer school volunteer work the I pads can be heavy controlled on what is blocked and what is not. I found that a tutorial from youtube could be useful if you wanted to learn more about the graphing calculator apps that are offered on the i pad.

Digital Storytelling: Adobe Slate

image

Adobe Slate is the app from iTunes  that I decided to use after reviewing the other apps that were offered, I felt that this app was the most beneficial to me in telling the visual story and the fact that it will allow other  to navigate and it allowed you to type in a name or place and it would find the pictures for you without having to look on Google images or any other site. What I liked about this app is that it is free compared to other app that cost nearly $30 that did the same things in making a a topic come to life. The topic I choose for my storyline was the biography of Abraham Lincoln, what I did with this app is gave a brief personal life history on Lincoln by hitting the main points throughout his life. I feel that with the low expense of this app it would allow educators to give there students a chance to fully use a topic on a report in a way that the student could make his or her project talk more active, by giving the peers a viewable lesson on the topic that they have been assigned instead of just getting up in front of  the class and just reading something from a piece of paper, your able to get the students involved as well. If you are a first time user to this app and would have trouble getting around in it, you may find this tutorial from yotube very helpful for problems you might come across. Overall in the future I would use this app if I was going give a presentation to a class on a certain topic and wanted to spice my talk up by giving the class the ultimate experience.

Week 6 Reflection: I Pad App review, Popplet lite

This App from Apple.com  allows the user to have a main idea in the center and allows you to expand from that idea, known as a mind mapping app. You make a popplet resizable rectangle which allows you to write or draw a photo or in or just a word then allows you to connect it to other shapes. This is just one of  many mindmapping tools that allows you to expand your knowledge from one idea to the next. If you want this app in the I pad form it costs $49.99 , but Popplet lite is free. The free app is easy to use and lets you create a single, never ending mind map on your iPad. The only problem with Popplet lite is that you are limited to that one, single-never ending mindmap. There’s no way to save your work and start new on the free version and you have to wipe the slate clean permanently if you want to start a new one. This app would be a good fit for teachers in classrooms to allow your students, to expand his or her thoughts from a lesson using a free version, and discussion it with other classmates. One of the perks of the free app is that after the lesson, the students would not have to save the thoughts they made and could move on to another lesson with this app on the next day. If you have trouble using this app, you can use this tutorial from YouTube, which will walk you through the free app.

Week 5 Reflection: Tech Edge In The Classroom

For my first video I watched Episode 118 math and logic games, this video talked about app math games  being used in the classroom and the one I took the most notice on was a game called slice it. This game allows the user to use a notepad and cut shapes into equal fractions, this allows you draw out the fraction with the app showing what you have done. For example if it give you a fraction of 3/4 you have to fill that in on the problem and it will tell you if you failed or passed. This app is free for basic use and .99 for more options on the app if you want to pay for it.  After looking at the basic I like the app it was easy laid out and gave you proper teaching methods after you attempt is made on the fraction.

The second app I want to talk about is History Atlas, it allows the user to travel the globe on a virtual timeline allowing teachers to show students what is happening during that period. If you are a teacher and wanting to make your lesson more lively for the students, then using this app would be beneficial. I personally think this app from the video will allow students to become more independent with there lesson on historical events. The only down fall to this app that would keep it out of the classroom is that it cost $9.99, most teachers would not want to spend that amount of money for something they can teach from a power point. From looks of the video it would be worth money, but with large amounts of budget cuts I could understand why schools would stay away from this app.

The third app that I am going to talk about is the app called Solar Walk, It allows students to understand what space crafts are neat the earth and goes into great detail about how they function. This app allows the students to view the earth as it rotates from the space craft, giving location of stars and features about the earth. What I found most entertaining about this app is that it goes into great detail on what you would expect to find on a space craft and the historical purpose for int on any particular space craft. The basic is free which I tried and found that it was well written from a historical point of view, but was kinda cheesy on the way it displayed the information, about shit in almost kids television type way. If you want an upgrade to the app with more to do such as exploring more of the solar system, you may purchase it for 2.99. Overall this app would be useful in a classroom science class to have a change in pace for the teachers lesson.

These tech videos do a great job of opening the door to many knew possibilities for a teacher in a classroom. You can find these app on iTunes app store and from the YouTube site

Interactive Whiteboards and Screencasting: My First Screencast

For my first interactive whiteboards and screencasting, I decide to use the app called explain everything  and talk about about American History in The U.S. I thought that using the app do give a general understanding of some of the important key concepts for students to know about the U.S. History was important for this assignment. I thought when first using this app it was very difficult to navigate and I had a hard time in making sure when writing the words, that they where in the proper places and making sure they spelled out what I was trying to say in the sentence. I thought it was also difficult in making sure your slides where in the right place and when recording you had to backup and rewrite over every slide, after talking so it did take some time to figure out. The only other downfall to this app is that you had to pay $2.99 for it might be a little expensive for what you might want to with it. Overall though after figuring the app out it was very helpful in making the video that I wanted to get the point across about American History. This app would be useful in classrooms for students and teachers to give projects on about a particular subject, the only downfall like I said before would be the cost, that might drive educators and students away from this product. If you are a first time user with this product you may use this tutorial for reference on questions that you may have regarding this app.

I Movie Trailer: Friends Coming together from the classroom.

https//www.youtube.com/watch?v=pShRTukRMcg&feature=youtu.be

The I movie trailer I used is friends coming together from the classroom over the summer and becoming friends. I used different concepts of people such as a cheerleader, a class president, artist and clown. The most interesting thing about this video is that I used all the pictures of my friends and family, which if you notice the artist, a heavier set guy, he is my brother who has down syndrome. I thought this video app was a little confusing at first, when trying to figure out where everything should go. I noticed if you hit the wrong button on the I movie, it would kick you back to the main screen, then you would have to load your movie back up. I knew how to use capture and uploading to YouTube, from block so it was not the difficult, but if you are knew to it it would be tough to get it uploaded. What I like about this app is that it is free if it is already downloaded on your I pad but you may have to buy if from the App store for $ 4.99. If you are having trouble being a first time user to I movie you could use this tutorial to help with problems that you may have. This app is could be used for all aspects in the classroom including teaching a lesson, presentation or just a bio from home.

Week 4 Reflection: Math Apps

Learn Lead Grow

The article starts out talking about how Math Apps on I pads are changing the way students at an early age are learning in classroom. The article Learn, Lead, Grow  tells how a 5 year old student is a Kindergartener  who is constantly counting, writing down his numbers, and adding up his animal crackers when asked in the class. The I pads are introduced with the math apps to help the students in Learning place value is one of foundations of learning in the mathematics classroom. Many teachers utilize base ten blocks in their classroom to help students. These Apps not only in kindergarten, but in upper elementary levels of education are also helping students discover his or her  mathematical ability. The U.S. currently ranks in the middle of the world as to academic standing, even coming close to some 3rd world county’s, that is why in today’s learning environment, I pads are trying to help the nation build its academic level, world wide. Education is only growing and Math Apps especially, as technology grows in the coming years, will only help the education field in its quest to gain more knowledge.

Most of the Apps such as Long division for upper level elementary students  and middle school is free and provides the students with a understanding of lessons on long division basics, zero up top, remainders, decimals, repeating decimals, and decimals in the divisor. You do have apps is you want them to generate more problems for you or give you proper solutions such as math facts monsters, which can be purchase for  $.99. If you a teacher or student and are a first time user to the math facts game of the I pad, you could use this tutorial to answer questions regarding the app. I thought this article regarding student learning was beneficial to students, who could learn through a game with the use of new technology and not just copying problems and answers down from the board and not truly being able to keep up with the teacher, because of different academic levels. The article was knowledgeable and looking at some of the apps they where very laid out and understanding, the I like the most is that this article told you what you had to pay for and how much it would be, so I didn’t have to find out out what it would cost when wanting to do some new feature on the app then realizing I couldn’t. Overall like I said it is a great way for teacher to teach new things and for students to learn through different teaching methods.
